A Renishaw tool setting arm brings a probe into the lathe’s working area to set tool offsets: each tool is touched on the probe stylus and the DynaPath control records its offsets, so a new or changed tool is set in seconds rather than by trial cuts. Renishaw quotes tool setting times up to 90% faster than manual methods.
Renishaw’s high-precision arms use the RP3 three-axis probe and a patented hub that puts the stylus back in the same place every time the arm is brought into position, for 5µm repeatability. They are sealed to IPX8 for life in a coolant-filled lathe. The same arm also checks for broken tools between operations.
It is an option on MDSL slant bed lathes, fitted and set up by MACH.
